Continuous application. Fertiliser is applied at a constant rate from irrigation start to finish. The total amount is injected regardless of water discharge rate.&lt;br /&gt;   2. Three-stage application. Irrigation starts without fertilisers. Injection begins when the ground is wet. Injection cuts out before the irrigation cycle is completed. Remainder of the irrigation cycle allows the fertiliser to be flushed out of the system.&lt;br /&gt;   3. Proportional application. The injection rate is proportional to the water discharge rate, e.g. one litre of solution to 1000 litres of irrigation water. This method has the advantage of being extremely simple and allows for increased fertigation during periods of high water demand when most nutrients are required.&lt;br /&gt;   4. Quantitative application. Nutrient solution is applied in a calculated amount to each irrigation block, e.g. 20 litres to block A, 40 litres to block B. This method is suited to automation and allows the placement of the nutrients to be accurately controlled.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Injection methods and equipment&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The selection of the correct injection equipment is just as important as the selection of the correct nutrient. Incorrect selection of equipment can damage parts of the irrigation equipment, affect the efficient operation of your irrigation system or reduce the effectiveness of the nutrients.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The three usual methods of injection are:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;   1. suction injection&lt;br /&gt;   2. pressure differential injection&lt;br /&gt;   3. pump injection.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Suction injection&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Suction of fertiliser through the intake of the pump is a common method of application and is the simplest method. A pipe or hose delivers the fertiliser solution from an open supply tank to the suction pipe. The rate of delivery is controlled by a valve. This connection must be tight to prevent air entry into the pump.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another hose or pipe connected to the discharge side of the pump can fill the supply tank with water. A high-pressure float valve can be used to regulate this inflow into the tank.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If necessary the system can be automated with a direct-acting solenoid valve. Flushing the system is necessary.&lt;br /&gt;    * Risk of contamination of water supply if chemicals flow back down suction pipe when pumping unit stops. The venturi causes a rapid change in velocity producing a reduced pressure (vacuum) which draws the fertiliser solution into the line.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Injection rates of 2 litres to 3000 litres per hour can be achieved.&lt;br /&gt;Advantages&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * Simple in design with no moving parts.&lt;br /&gt;    * Easy to install, requiring little maintenance.&lt;br /&gt;    * Fertiliser rates can be controlled with some accuracy.&lt;br /&gt;    * Low labour, as a month’s supply of stock can be mixed in an inexpensive tank.&lt;br /&gt;    * Low cost.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Disadvantages&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * Quantitative fertigation is difficult.&lt;br /&gt;    * Requires pressure loss in main irrigation line (can be 33%).&lt;br /&gt;    * Automation is difficult.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pump injection&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the most common method of injection of fertiliser into irrigation systems. Injection energy is provided by electric motors, impeller-driven power units and water-driven hydraulic motors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The pumps are usually rotary, gear, piston or diaphragm-type which deliver fertiliser solution from the supply tank into the pressurised mainline. This method can be very accurate. Pumps are generally not simple in design and can include a number of moving parts, so wear and breakdown are more likely.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The three systems available are electric injection pumps, piston-activated pumps and diaphragm-activated pumps. Piston-activated and diaphragm- activated pumps are both hydraulic injection pumps; these dominate the fertigation market at present.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Electric injection pumps include single or multiple piston, diaphragm, gear and roller pumps. Since the pump’s maximum rate of injection is proportional to the pressure in the mainline, the required injection rate is easily adjusted by throttling the injection line by means of a valve fitted to the water main, and as the injection rate per pulse is known, the exact application of nutrients can be readily calculated. For high injection rates, two or more units can be operated in parallel. Injection rates of up to 320 litres/hour are possible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Diaphragm-activated pumps - water pumped into the lower chamber activates a rubber diaphragm in the drive unit which forces the diaphragm up, and in doing so via a drive rod, forces the fertiliser out of the injector into the irrigation system. On the return stroke the spent drive water is discharged from the lower chamber of the drive unit while simultaneously fertiliser solution is drawn into the injector. The cycle is automatically repeated. Injection rates from 3 litres to 1200 litres per hour are possible. Nasir Ibrahim, 29, yang tidak mahu melihat anak-anak muda terus hanyut dan leka membuang masa tanpa melakukan perkara yang boleh mendatangkan manfaat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Justeru , dia bersama dua saudara, Salehuddin Ibrahim, 26, Mohd. Ibrahim, 32, beserta tiga sahabatnya iaitu Shuhaimi Latef, 40, Fakharudin Mat Ali, 30, dan Nazri Abdul Majid, 39, mengambil keputusan untuk menceburkan diri dalam bidang penanaman cili secara sambilan kerana mahu meningkatkan pendapatan melalui bidang pertanian.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jika dahulu purata pendapatan mereka hanya di bawah RM1,000 setiap bulan, namun setelah menyertai projek perintis dalam kawasan pembangunan pertanian daerah Sik pendapatan setiap daripada mereka menjangkau RM3,000 sebulan dan purata setahun keuntungan yang diperoleh hasil penjualan cili boleh mencecah RM16,000.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Menurut Nasir yang juga menjalankan kerja-kerja pendawaian di sekitar Sik, sebelum menyertai projek teknologi penanaman cili secara fertigasi, dia hanya menanam cili dengan menggunakan kaedah penanaman tradisional dan hasilnya kurang memuaskan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Setelah mengikuti projek ini kami dapati hasil pengeluaran cili bertambah dari semasa ke semasa dan hasilnya semakin baik.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Kini dalam sehari, kami boleh mengutip sehingga satu tan cili bagi setiap lot tanah dan cili itu dijual terus kepada pemborong,” katanya ketika ditemui di ladang mereka di Kampung Hujung Bandar, Sik, Kedah, baru-baru ini.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Menurut Nasir, projek ini adalah kerjasama daripada agensi-agensi yang berada di bawah Kementerian Perindustrian dan Asas Tani seperti Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia (MARDI) Lembaga Pemasaran Pertanian Persekutuan (FAMA), Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) di bawah MoA Inc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sebagai contohnya, MARDI memberikan khidmat nasihat dan input seperti baja, racun dan sebagainya dan membantu dari segi teknologi bagaimana mahu menghasilkan cili yang bermutu tingi.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ujar Nasir, mereka memilih cili kerana menyedari ia merupakan sayuran jenis berbuah yang popular dan mendapat permintaan yang tinggi di pasaran walaupun harganya sentiasa turun dan naik kerana kemasukan cili daripada luar negara seperti daripada Thailand.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Katanya, sewaktu memulakan projek ini pada tahun 2004, harga cili mengalami kemerosotan yang teruk sehingga jatuh kepada RM1 sekilogram akibat lambakan cili daripada luar.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Pada waktu itu, memang kami rasa sedih kerana pulangan yang diperoleh tidak berbaloi dengan kudrat kami kerana ia begitu sedikit sehingga kami terfikir untuk menarik diri.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Namun kerana minat yang mendalam kami tetap teruskan dan semakin lama, harga cili semakin baik dan kini ia mencecah RM5.80 sekilogram dan ini boleh membuatkan kami tersenyum lebar kerana kesabaran kami tidak sia-sia,” katanya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Projek yang memasuki fasa ketiga ini sedang dituai hasilnya setelah pokok cili variati 568 ditanam pada Di“sember tahun lalu.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Setiap daripada kami diberi lot tanah masing-masing yang mana setiap seorang menjaga 3000 pokok iaitu 800 beg di bawah struktur pelindung hujan dan 2,200 beg secara terbuka tanpa pelindung hujan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Kaedah penanaman cili secara fertigasi memudahkan kerja kami di ladang dan memendekkan waktu kami di ladang kerana sistem pengairan dan pembajaan dilakukan melalui mikro tiub dan dijalankan secara automatik," ujarnya. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Katanya, mereka menggunakan medium tanaman yang terdiri daripada sekam wap yang diperoleh daripada kilang padi di sekitar Alor Star dan sekam bakar tersebut ternyata baik bagi pembesaran anak pokok cili.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nasir memberitahu, pihak MARDI menggalakkan mereka untuk menanam cili jenis variati 568 kerana ia mempunyai bentuk buah seperti kulai dan mudah dipasarkan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Selain itu, katanya, buah itu sangat pedas serta pokok mengeluarkan buah yang berterusan dan mula masak di peringkat empat pengeluaran buah iaitu 70-75 hari selepas dipindahkan ke ladang.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tambahnya lagi, pokok cili varieti 568 juga mempunyai bentuk yang tegap dengan sistem pendahanan yang banyak, seimbang, kuat dan tidak mudah patah selain tidak memerlukan sokongan pada setiap dahan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Pokok yang sederhana tinggi dan mudah dipetik menjadikan varieti ini menjadi pilihan penanam dan jangkamasa pemetikan adalah panjang iaitu sehingga tiga bulan,” ujarnya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jelas Nasir, mereka menjalankan pemasaran cili sendiri di sekitar Kedah, Pulau Pinang hingga ke sekitar Lembah Klang.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Setakat ini katanya, hasil daripada penjualan cili tidak pernah menghampakan mereka dan tahun ini mereka menjangkakan akan beroleh keuntungan sekitar RM18,000 kerana harga cili meningkat di pasaran.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Kami hanya memperuntukkan masa selama dua hingga tiga jam di ladang kami untuk memantau pokok-pokok cili.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Masa yang selebihnya boleh digunakan untuk melakukan pekerjaan lain kerana masa muda inilah kita perlu bekerja kuat untuk masa depan,” katanya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Menurut Timbalan Pengarah Program Pembangunan Usahawan MARDI, Khadzir Darus, pihaknya sentiasa mengalu-alukan sesiapa sahaja yang berminat untuk menceburkan diri dalam bidang pertanian dan keusahawan kerana ia boleh mendatangkan hasil yang lumayan kepada pengusahanya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Lihat sahaja enam anak muda di Sik yang mengusahakan tanaman cili secara fertigasi, mereka membuktikan anak kampung juga boleh berjaya dengan usaha sendiri.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Malah mereka juga memberi peluang pekerjaan kepada penduduk kampung yang mengambil upah memetik cili di ladang mereka," katanya ketika melawat ladang Nasir dan rakan-rakannya di Sik baru-baru ini.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Menurut Khadzir, pihak MARDI juga sedang berbincang dengan Nasir dan rakan-rakan untuk Berapakah Anggaran kos untuk 1 ekar? &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;JAWAPAN :&lt;/strong&gt; Tanah itu dipanggil peat-moss, khas untuk menyemai benih. Ia boleh digunakan sebagai media tanaman tetapi tak 'cost effective' sebab harganya ialah di antara rm28 ke rm35 untuk 1 beg/25kg (bergantung kepada supplier &amp; peruncit). 1 beg boleh digunakan untuk menyemai sekurang-kurangnya 50 tray semaian (atau 5000 unit semaian).
